Stacey Ballis

What’s Her Take on Men with Big Shoulders?

A four-year stint as a high-school English teacher in the Chicago public school system is hardly the sort of resume item one would expect from an urban-savvy young novelist currently offering her most recent chick-lit novel, Sleeping Over, a look at five fabulous females trying to forge lives of meaning and intimacy in the City of Big Shoulders. The obvious comparisons to Candace Bushnell would paint her as professional party girl, a couturier’s muse, an unrepentant footwear fetishist. Chicago native and author Stacey Ballis, however, seems slightly more down to earth, boasting degrees from Brandeis and DePaul Universities as well as a full-time day job as Director of Education and Community Programs at The Goodman Theatre. Pop fiction fans can get a taste of Ballis’s Third Coast take on glamour girls when she offers a reading at Barnes and Noble (1441 W. Webster St.) on April 5th at 7 p.m. A book signing will follow the approximately hour-long reading.
