- The book starts with a magazine article about the sisters. Do you think this was a good way to be introduced to the main characters?
- When we first meet the Spingold women in person, they are celebrating a weekly Cocktail Hour. What does their interaction with each other seem to tell us about the four women?
- Jodi is thrown by Jill’s engagement, even though she knows ahead of time that it is going to happen. What do you think it says about her that she is so troubled by such a wonderful event?
- The business is plagued by detractors, people who are threatened by the message of the company. Do you agree with any of their criticisms?
- On first blush, which of Jodi’s three beaus do you think seems to be the best fit?
- Why do you think Jodi is so reluctant to let any of her men go?
- Do you think Jodi handles the business problems in the right way, or do you agree with Jill that she should have fully disclosed all the issues?
- What do you think of Aunt Shirley and Aunt Ruth? Which would you most want to have a drink with?
- Spinster Inc. is populated with an eclectic group of professional women. Do you think a business that is entirely owned and operated by women is a good idea or a bad one? What would happen if a man joined the staff?
- Jodi struggles with her relationships, even as she is giving advice to thousands of other women about their relationships. Why do you think she has such trouble practicing what she preaches?
- Mallory seems bound and determined to undermine Jodi’s relationship with Brant, and to damage her personally and professionally. Why do you think she is so vindictive? Have you ever been that resentful of your man’s ex? What did you do?
- Ultimately, Jodi chooses Connor over Abbott. Do you think she makes the right choice?
- The chapter headings offer small pieces of the Spinster’s advice. Do you think they are insightful?
